Funk, no not the music.

“There are two kinds of people in the world, birthday people and not birthday people. Not birthday people don’t make a big deal out of their birthdays, after all it’s not about an accomplishment. Birthday people are the exact opposite.” – Emily Owens M.D.

I have been both a birthday person and not one. But recently this day has not been my favourite day, which I have come to believe it a little odd-ish for someone of my age, and it actually has been like that for the past couple birthdays. I’m thinking that the early onset of this day is regret and looking back at how little I feel like I’ve accomplished.

I know 25 isn’t that old in the grand scheme of things but as the day draws closer I can’t help but think about it. And in all honesty it’s not even about my birthday, not exactly anyways. It’s just that I’m seeing all these people my age starting their own families then there’s me, I don’t know how to meet women let alone have any hint at if they would even be interested in me romantically. It’s not even that I think I’m ready to start my own family it’s that I’m not even close, I have not romantic prospects, absolutely none. And I think it’s just as hard that I don’t even have a simple crush, besides nostalgically or on a celebrity in years.

Above in italics is a perfect example of why I don’t post nearly as often as I would like to. Sometimes my writing gets away from me, now usually this isn’t a problem because I end up on interesting tangents but sometimes I find myself in a bit of a funk and my writing ends up being whiney, complain-y, and all woe is me. Truly, that is not at all what I am wanting to post on here so it frustrates me to no end when that’s all that my writing ends up producing.

Now normally I don’t let it get that far and just choose to close my notebook and give it time. I’ve also let myself write dark to get it out, but more often it’s just small bursts like this. But I think that’s how it is with everyone you want all the good and none of the bad. But I mean sometimes you need the bad to just show you how good it is when it is good.

So when you find yourself in a funk whether it writing or whatever I’ve found that there are usually two ways of dealing with it. First being to push through it; break through the wall that is funk with perseverance. Second is to give it time, in the same way that “Time heals all wounds” time tends to break funk down. But they both have their own advantages and disadvantages, it’s different for each person, and it’s even different for each situation. For me, as may seem obvious I tend to lean towards the give it time option, hence the breaks between posts. But then I don’t really try to push through, but that’s because when things get frustrating I just tend to switch to a different project.
With that I do thank those of you who regularly check this blog for updates, and those of you who read when I do post

Post Script: Happy New Years, plus one month. This winter has been weird, as I am finishing this it is the 1st of Feb and as of so far there hasn’t been snow. And I live in Canada. It’s weird.

I don't know about you But I'm feeling 24

So with a new tradition that I started last year when near to my birthday I gave 23 pieces of unsolicited advice. Except this year I can't give you 23 things, so I will share 24 things about me that you probably didn't know before. Or maybe you did in which case. Good for you. (and this is why I don't ad-lib blog posts.) Also I am sorry for my laziness, uninspiration, and general lack of postingness. (And there I go making up words.)

Before I get even more distracted here I go.

  1. To keep my hands busy I make paper cranes out of post-it notes.
  2. I've taught my tongue to tie cherry stems in knots, because I thought it might make me a better kisser.
  3. And yet I've never been kissed.
  4. I couldn't snap my fingers until after I graduated High School.
  5. I got the scar on my left thumb from a broken glass bottle is what I tell people, what I don't tell them is that I got it because I used to dumpster dive for cans because I couldn't afford to get an allowance.
  6. It wasn't until two weeks ago that I owned all 7 Harry Potter novels.
  7. Spider-Man and the X-Men have always been my preferred superheroes because they were picked on just like I was.
  8. When I was younger I wanted to be the green power ranger because we shared a used name.
  9. My first name is Franklin, but i go by Tommy, a contraction of my middle name: Thomas.
  10. I cry far more often than I admit.
  11. I regret how judgmental I was in high school.
  12. My first time drunk I declared that I was Batman my second time drunk I accused my cousin of being an X-Men mutant.
  13. My first celebrity crushes were the Olsen twins, my first irl crush was also a pair of twins.
  14. I am not worried about losing my mind, I've already accepted that it will happen.
  15. I greatly desire to be a father, and no raise a child in a single parent home.
  16. I also have name possibilities picked out.
  17. I don't drink enough water, and i know this but don't do anything about it.
  18. I like going to the movies alone just as much as with people.
  19. I've got a "thing" for redheads and before that it was blondes, but realistically hair colour hasn't been all that big of a deal, or at least not as much as eye colour.
  20. My attraction to Natalie Portman has a lot to do with her having been in Star Wars, even if it was the prequels.
  21. I am convinced that when I see her I will just know.
  22. I don't read/watch the news because it makes me angry, and I feel like I should do something about it. But all I can think to do is deliver vigilante justice.
  23. I had a dream last week about teaching the ethical culinary preparation and serving of human meat.
  24. I'm worried I won't find someone because I am too worried she would end up getting hurt.
Post Script: I purposely posted this after my birthday, because I felt like after being 24 for a day could help me write this alas I was right-ish.

Tomorrow is My Birthday. Read This.

As promised and because tomorrow is mine, I will be talking about birthdays, and not just mine. Well that's not true, probably primarily mine. Andso here I go.

So tomorrow is my birthday and I will be 23 years old, and I've already gone through three different stages of excitability in association to my birthday. Up to grade 7 I believe I was super enthusiastically excited for my birthday. Then high school came around and it kind of just fizzled out. It's not that I didn't care it's just that I wasn't overly excited because I felt that validation came from the number of people who showed up or said "Happy Birthday", now take in your account that this was before Facebook was huge.

Arg. I don't want to talk about my birthday it's just uninspired and I'm immensely unmotivated to write about this because it will end up with me reliving feeling bad about myself and that's not something I want to do.

Since I don't want this to be short I will give 23 unsolicited life tips.
1. It's okay to stalk a fictional character, but not a real living person.
2. Chances are if you just met the person, it's infatuation not love.
3. Try things.
4. Read books.
5. To paraphrase an author and professional video blogger "The thing about pain is that it demands to be felt"
6. Don't be afraid to be silly.
7. Believe in something.
8. Be nice.
9. It's okay to judge as long as long as you're open to having your opinion changed.
10. You are allowed to be both afraid and unafraid.
11. Don't let your friends make up your mind for you. Think for yourself.
12. Have friends.
13. Like things or people, even if your friends and family don't get it.
14. Learn a second language, even if it's of a fictional peoples.
15. Let people get close enough to you that they could hurt you.
16. Watch either a sunset or a sunrise at least once.
17. It's easy to be a phallus and phallus adjacent, and sometimes that's okay.
18. Life happens when it's meant to be.
19. Celebrate the little things.
20. Don't Forget To Be Awesome.
21. Your imagination is useful so put it to full use.
22. Have fun.
23. In association to life there's one thing that comes to mind, a quote by Robert Frost. "In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on.”

Post Script: In writing these out I realise that some of them are meant to be shared with all of you, but a lot of them are meant for me.
